Does your child have language difficulties?
Have you noticed that your child has trouble expressing themselves, pronouncing words or following instructions? An appointment with a speech-language pathologist can guide you towards solutions to help your child’s language development.
What is a speech-language assessment?
There are three different types of speech-language assessment offered by speech-language pathologists practicing in Lobe clinics:
- Oral language
- Written language
- Orofacial myofunctional disorders (lisping, atypical swallowing, tongue thrust, etc.)
The evaluation will consist of games, structured activities guided by the speech-language pathologist, or formal tasks, depending on the client’s age and the type of assessment needed.
During an assessment, parents will be asked to fill out a form to give the speech-language pathologist all of the information they need to understand the child’s situation.
The speech-language pathologist will also generally speak with people close to the child, like educators or teachers. They may also work with other healthcare professionals (general practitioner, ENT doctor, audiologist, psychoeducator, dentist, etc.).
Evaluation report
Following the evaluation, the speech-language pathologist meets with parents and provides their evaluation report, recommendations and a treatment plan adapted to the child’s needs.
