A full written speech-language assessment will take two to four meetings, depending on the child’s grade and level of cooperation. This evaluation is designed to suit all ages, from elementary school to adulthood.

A written language assessment always includes a summary (or in-depth, depending on the person’s needs) evaluation of their oral language. It’s essential to understand that a person’s written language abilities are directly linked to their oral language abilities.

After the oral language assessment, the speech-language pathologist will evaluate the person’s ability to decode written language, their reading speed and their reading comprehension. They also analyze spelling and grammar mistakes, as well as the person’s ability to structure their ideas in writing.
