The role of The speech-language pathologist
Speech-language pathologists’ primary goal is to help people communicate better. They use their expertise to assess and treat communication problems in children, teens and adults. Conditions that they can treat include:
- Developmental language delay
- Speech disorders (phonological disorder, verbal dyspraxia, stuttering, etc.)
- Developmental trouble disorder (dysphasia)
- Specific learning disabilities (dyslexia, dysorthographia, etc.)
- Orofacial myofunctional disorders (lisping, atypical swallowing, tongue thrust, etc.)
Once they have finished their assessment, speech-language pathologists can offer treatments that meet their patients’ needs. They are always available to answer questions. They support patients throughout the evaluation and treatment process.
