Tongue thrust occurs when the person places their tongue too far forward in the mouth when they speak and swallow, and even when they’re resting. There are different degrees of tongue thrust; the tongue may simply press against the teeth or, in more extreme cases, it may push between the upper and lower jaw and be visible outside the mouth.
