Successful First Dates
Are you looking for a soulmate? It can be hard to reveal your hearing loss to a new love interest.
And the dating scene itself is a tough one to navigate in the first place! That’s why planning a date well can go a long way. Here are some tips that will give you confidence for your next date.
Select the right place
Do you know of a cozy little restaurant in your neighbourhood? Somewhere quiet and romantic? That’s a great choice for a date! Make sure to reserve a table that’s away from the kitchen and the speakers so you can concentrate on what your companion is saying. Avoid bars and other noisy places where you may have trouble understanding.
Ask them to repeat
Don’t pretend you heard what your companion said if you didn’t understand. Instead, ask them to repeat themselves to make sure you’re following the conversation. Otherwise, you could find yourself in an embarrassing situation: did your date just say, “I love you” Or “I love juice”?
Make eye contact
It’s always a good idea to look a new love interest in the eye during a date, but eye contact is even more important if you have hearing loss. Among other things, it will allow you to read your partner’s lips. Encourage the other person to make eye contact when they talk so you can understand everything.
Don’t be ashamed of your hearing aids
Would you judge a partner for wearing glasses? Probably not. Hearing aids should be treated the same way. Show off your hearing aids with pride. Your date may even see them as cool gadgets.
Be honest
When is the best time to discuss your hearing loss with your new love interest? On the first date? After a few weeks of dating? It may be a hard decision, but it’s always best to mention it before your partner finds out on their own.
Wishing you wonderful meetings filled with great conversations!
Don't forget!
An assessment by an audioprosthetist is required to determine which hearing aid suits the patient's needs.
